We all like to think that we use our own social media accounts in the most efficient way possible. But do people and businesses really know how to get the most out of their social media accounts? There are so many different ways in which we’re able to interact online, it’s hard to say. Many people don’t believe in the staying power of social media for business, but we’ve got to break it to you social media is here to stay. It’s just a matter of determining what platform and strategy is right for you and your business.

Today, most of us are likely using an array of media outlets including, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn, just to name a few. Each site has their own way of creating the content you want. One thing that stays constant is the ability to have a voice. You are able to post whatever you like, whenever you like and you can follow whomever you like.

Here are a few ways to ensure you and your company are getting the most out of your social media accounts:

  1. Don’t limit yourself. You can have as many social accounts as you’d like, where you can post at your leisure. Business accounts should use this same approach, just make sure that you have a focused list of who the business is following and interacting with. Just be careful not to bite off more than you can chew!
  2. Don’t take it too seriously. Yes you should create content that is appropriate, but to get engagement, people need to be attracted to it. Have fun with it!
  3. Stay consistent. You have to convey the same message and have the same voice throughout. You want the image your conveying to be consistent with your individual brand.
  4. Engagement is a two-way street. You can broaden your customer base and potentially get prospects from your posts. Make sure you’re active on all platforms, as well as engaging with other accounts.

With millennials becoming the bulk of the workforce, this is an important statistic to keep in mind. Personally, I have 5 different social media accounts and sometimes it’s hard to juggle all of them. When it gets overwhelming, some of the accounts suffer and I go MIA. I don’t post, I don’t engage with other people, and I don’t reply to anyone. To stay relevant and really get the most out of your social and business accounts, you need to stay engaged. Challenge yourself to go online at least once a day and spend a good amount of time interacting.
